Paxil and Prozac constitute a danger to prenatal development of the child
Results of an international study conducted by scientists from Israel, Germany, and Italy, allow to claim that administration of two popular antidepressants from a group of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Paxil and Prozac) in the first trimester of pregnancy by women is associated with increased risk of developmental disorders of the heart in the unborn baby. The researchers were unable to identify Paxil and Prozac administration with other abnormalities in the fetus development.
The study was conducted with 2,191 women; 410 of them received paroxetine (Paxil and other trade names) in the first trimester of pregnancy , and 314 received fluoxetine (Prozac and other trade names). As for the remaining 1467 participants of the study, they formed a control group.
